We are eager for you to join us on this adventure to Germany in June of 2022. Our tour will take us from Berlin in the northwest to the Bavarian Alps in the south with political history, religious history, culture and music packed in between. In Oberammergau, we’ll experience the world-class performance of the Passion Play which has been performed by humble villagers every ten years since 1634 in thanksgiving to God for sparing this tiny village from the plague. After seeing the play in 2010, we knew we wanted to share this once-in-a-lifetime experience with our children and grandchildren. Offering the trip to extended family and friends allows us to engage Reformation Tours to attend to the trip details so that the 11 days are comfortable, well-coordinated and stress-free. There will be personal time built in to most days for you to have lunch or explore on your own apart from the group. We view this as a family trip, so please feel free to extend this offer to your own children or grandchildren. We can’t wait to share this time with you in 2022.

Day 3: Tuesday, June 21, 2022: Berlin, Wittenberg
After a leisurely breakfast, we will have a guided tour of Berlin. We’ll see the famous Brandenburg Gate, the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, the Cathedral, the Reichstag building and the lively boulevards. We will continue on to Wittenberg this afternoon and join a service with the Wittenberg English Ministry followed by a Luther Meal in the Brauhaus. We will overnight in Wittenberg. (B/D)
Day 4: Wednesday, June 22, 2022: Wittenberg, Eisenach
This morning our local guide will take us on a tour of Lutherstadt Wittenberg. It was here in 1517 that Martin Luther nailed his famous 95 Theses to the door of Castle Church (Schlosskirche). Although the original doors were destroyed in the Seven Years War, we can see Luther’s texts cast in bronze on the new doors. We will visit St. Mary’s Church where Luther regularly preached and visit the Old Latin School next door. Luther’s former home, the Lutherhalle, is now a Reformation Museum and we will see where he lived with his family, as well as some of Luther’s very own personal library, rare manuscripts, and early Bibles. We will travel to Eisenach in the late afternoon and dine in our hotel. (B/D)
Day 5: Thursday, June 23, 2022: Eisenach
In 1521, while fleeing from the wrath of the Pope, Luther took refuge in the Wartburg Castle after a fake kidnapping staged by his friend and protector, Frederick the Wise. We will tour the Wartburg and see where Luther finished translating the New Testament into German in just eleven weeks. We will have a group lunch, then a local guide will take us on a walking tour, including the Luther House Museum with its fascinating displays about the time & culture of Luther. We will also see St George’s (Georgenkirche) Church, which is connected with both Martin Luther and Johann Sebastian Bach. Martin Luther was a choir boy here and then preached in 1521 on his journey to and from the imperial parliament in Worms. On the north wall is a large painting commissioned to commemorate the century of the Reformation, depicting Luther and Huss as well as the Augsburg Confession. This is the place where Bach was baptized in 1685. Several members of the Bach family were organists in this church. In the evening we will have an after-hours private visit to the Bach House. We will be greeted with a glass of wine, and a private demonstration of the period instruments. (B/L)
Day 6: Friday, June 24, 2022: Nuremberg
On our way to Bavaria, we will stop in Nuremberg, which is well known for its long tradition of toy manufacturing. Nuremberg was also the city where the Nazis held their party rallies in the 1930s, and the Documentation Center presents this history on the rally grounds where it occurred. We will have free time to explore the historic town center this afternoon and we will dine in a local restaurant. (B/D)
Day 7: Saturday, June 25, 2022: Dachau, Oberammergau
We will travel to Dachau this morning and tour the Concentration Camp. Those that would prefer not to go, can spend time in the town of Dachau. We will eat a packed lunch (available from Dachau) on the bus, as we travel down to southern Bavaria. We will check in to our hotel in the Oberammergau region. (B/L/D)
Day 8: Sunday, June 26, 2022: Oberammergau Passion Play
The morning is free to stroll around Oberammergau before eating lunch and heading to the Passion Play. The seven-hour performance is truly a moving experience as we witness the passion of Jesus, recalling how He gave His life so that we might be forgiven. Gathered together with Christians from around the globe, this once-a-decade play is an unforgettable experience. (B/L/D)
Day 9: Monday, June 27, 2022: Neuschwanstein, Munich
We will begin our day with a visit to Wieskirche, a magnificent church with Rococo art. One of the best-known sites in Bavaria is Neuschwanstein Castle. We’ll tour the castle, then visit the tiny hamlet of Höllberg and take some photos. A boxed lunch will be arranged today. Once we’ve checked-in to our Munich hotel, the rest of the day is at leisure. (B/L)
Day 10: Tuesday, June 28, 2022: Munich
We’ll have a drive-by orientation tour of Munich’s highlights, including the Old Pinakothek Museum, Olympic Tower and Stadium, BMW Tower, Nymphenburg Palace, Deutsches Museum, the Marienplatz, the Rathaus and its famous Glockenspiel. We’ll then enjoy a pleasant walking tour of the old town sites and then have afternoon shopping or independent sightseeing, or just relax at our hotel. This evening we finish our fun tour with a farewell dinner with classic Bavarian cuisine & a live Bavarian folk show. (B/D)
Day 11: Wednesday, June 29, 2022: Return
