Lutherhalle Museum Zwickau Wartburg Castle Rothenburg-ob-der-Tauber Salzburg Munich
Wittenberg
We invite you to join us on a tour that explores “Our Great Heritage” with stops at Reformation era sights in Wittenberg, Zwickau, Erfurt, and Eisenach.
Our tour hosts will be Rev. Justin Dauck, currently serving St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School in Plymouth, Nebraska, and Rev. Joel Naumann, currently serving at St. Mark Lutheran Church and School in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Joel and Justin are graduates of Martin Luther College and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. Both enjoy Reformation history and have visited the “Luther Lands” in the past.
While much of what we do is looking back on this tour, we will also learn more about how the Gospel continues to be proclaimed and spread through the work of our sister church in Germany, the Evangelische Lutherische Frei Kirche (ELFK). Our Sunday in Zwickau will include a worship service at one of our sister congregations, a tour of the city and its Reformation history, as well as time spent with brothers and sisters in Christ.
The final days of our tour include a survey of history and culture with a stay in the medieval village of Rothenberg, a tour of the Dachau Concentration Camp, as well as stops in the Bavarian Alps, Munich, and a final evening along the Rhine River at Mainz.

Day 5: Sunday, July 28, 2024: Zwickau
We will have a leisurely drive to Zwickau this morning, which was the first city after Wittenberg to adopt the Reformation. Zwickau is also the headquarters for our sister church in Germany, the Evangelical Lutheran Free Church (ELFK). We will have our Sunday worship service at one of the historic ELFK churches in or near Zwickau (St. John’s Lutheran in Zwickau-Planitz or Holy Cross Lutheran in Crimmitschau) before visiting the ELFK’s bookstore and Dr. Martin Luther School. Our Reformation tour of Zwickau will be led by Dr. Gottfried Herrmann, a Zwickau expert and church historian. This portion of the tour will include Zwickau Cathedral (St. Mary’s) and the Priest Houses in the city center. During leisure time (time-permitting), there’s the option to visit the Robert Schumann House or the August-Horsch Museum which showcases 115 years of car manufacturing, including Audi and Trabant. We will dine in Zwickau with invited guests. (B/D)

Perhaps the most famous town on the “Romantic Road”, Rothenburg is indeed a jewel. It is a nearly intact medieval walled-city without a single modern building within. We enjoy a meal together at our hotel in this wonderful city, followed by a Night Watchman’s tour. (B/D)
