“Someday you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.” C. S. Lewis
As one of the great fantasy writers of the 19th century (and one who encouraged Lewis Carroll to pen Alice in Wonderland), Scottish George MacDonald acknowledged, “I write, not for children, but for the child-like, whether they be of five, or fifty, or seventy-five.” His works on The Princess and the Goblin and The Light Princess demonstrated his commitment to create worlds where the young and the wise (frequently old women for MacDonald) could find their fantastic imaginations working, waking meaning in their curious minds.
On this 9-day tour, you will have the opportunity to delve deeper into the world of fairy tales, particularly those written by the Brothers Grimm. Professors Terry Lindvall and Kathy Merlock-Jackson will bring the stories alive as you visit key locations that influenced their writings.
