Oberammergau Passion Play
Please see our Coronavirus page for updates on the current situation.
You are invited to join Pastor Ken Johnson on a tour through Germany highlighting the land of Martin Luther and the Oberammergau Passion Play. Just over 500 years ago Martin Luther started a movement that changed the world and you will visit the beautiful and historic places where that reformation began and took root.
The tour will be highlighted with the unique and wonderful experience of witnessing the Oberammergau Passion Play which has been performed by the villagers in this picturesque alpine village every ten years since 1634. You will enjoy local cuisine and culture as your travels take you to Berlin, Wittenberg, Eisleben, Erfurt, the Wartburg Castle, Regensburg, Munich, Neuschwanstein Castle, and Oberammergau.
This tour is run in conjunction with the Oberammergau Bike Tour.

We will also visit St. Peter and St. Paul Church where Luther was baptized. We will continue on to Erfurt, where we will meet up with the members of the Bike Tour. We will all dine together this evening. (B/D)
Day 6: Thursday, July 30, 2020: Erfurt
We will have breakfast in our hotel, then our local expert guide will take us on a walking tour. Luther lived in Erfurt as a student before he joined the Augustinian order. We will dine together this evening. (B/D)
Day 7: Friday, July 31, 2020: Eisenach, Erfurt
After breakfast, we will drive to nearby Eisenach and visit the Wartburg Castle. The Wartburg is one of the most important castles in German history. In 1521, Luther took refuge after a fake kidnapping staged by his friend and protector, Frederick the Wise. Among the many letters and books that he wrote here, was the first translation of the New Testament into German. We will also learn about the life and work of St. Elizabeth. In the afternoon, we will visit the Bach House in Eisenach, where we will hear a demonstration of Bach’s works performed on historical instruments. We will return to Erfurt for our evening meal. (B/D)
Day 8: Saturday, August 1, 2020: Munich

After free time to explore the city, we will continue on to Munich and dine in our hotel. (B/D)
Day 9: Sunday, August 2, 2020: Oberammergau
