Day 1: Departure
We will depart on our overnight flights to Paris, France. Alternative flights are available on request. (IF)
Day 2: Arrival, Giverny, Paris, Concert
When we land in Paris, we will meet our tour director who will welcome us to France and escort us to our waiting air-conditioned bus. On the way to Paris, we will travel to the delightful village of Giverny, with free time for lunch. In the afternoon, we will tour Monet’s home and gardens in Giverny, where the artist and gardener lived for over 40 years. We will see his colorful home, his studio-sitting room, and his collection of Japanese prints. His extensive gardens include the famous Water Garden, planted with oriental vegetation, waterlilies, and weeping willows. We will continue our journey into Paris and check in to our hotel. We will attend a classical music concert this evening in the spectacular Sainte-Chapelle chapel. (B)
Day 3: Cooking Class
Today we will have an in-depth food experience at a specialist cooking school, to experience the food and culture of France in a fun and delicious way. After coffee and croissants, we will visit the local market to purchase fresh ingredients. The hands-on cooking class will end with a delicious 3-course lunch. The chef will share stories about French culture and wine and we’ll come away with recipes and classically French culinary techniques. The afternoon will be at leisure. (B/L)
Day 4: Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Montmartre
No visit to Paris is complete without a tour of the stunning art in the Louvre. Our guide will give us a tour of the highlights of the world’s largest art museum, including seeing the Mona Lisa. The Eiffel Tower was built for the 1889 World Exposition and still attracts close to seven million visitors a year. We will go up to the 2nd floor for magnificent views of the city. We will board the bus and have an orientation tour of Paris, ending in the historic district of Montmartre. We will have free time to explore the area, which includes Sacre-Coeur, many cafes and art studios. We will then board a boat for a round-trip cruise on the Seine to see famous landmarks from the water. (B)
Day 5: Optional Tours
Today is set aside for us to explore Paris according to our own interests. We will have a variety of options to choose from using our Paris Visite Travel Card for Zones 1-3 which will allow us to travel freely on the Paris public transport system and visit most of the main sights and museums of Paris. In the evening, we will meet for dinner at a local restaurant. Disneyland Paris is within easy reach via public transport. (B/D)
Day 6: Versailles
We will travel by bus to the Royal Palace of Versailles, which has origins dating back to the seventeenth century. Our guided tour will include the Hall of Mirrors, the Grand Trianon, and the magnificent gardens. We will return to Paris in the afternoon and the rest of the day will be at leisure. Our farewell meal will be in a traditional Parisian restaurant with live music. (B/D)
Day 7: Return
We will transfer to Charles de Gaulle Airport for our return flights to St. Louis. (B/IF)
