Can you picture yourself strolling along the cobblestone streets of Greek islands, watching the sunset on Santorini, exploring the rich cultural history in Rome, wine-tasting in an Italian vineyard, and exploring Venice? If so, then this is the tour for you! Join Becky McGarrity and Taree McGee on this Mediterranean celebration tour.
We will begin in the historic city of Athens, including a tour of the magnificent Acropolis. We will then sail to two of the most popular Greek islands, Santoniri and Mykonos. We’ll have two days on each, so we can explore at leisure. There’s a mix of included activities and free time. We’ll then fly to Rome and visit key sites like the Vatican, the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain. On the way to Florence we’ll stop in Siena, home of the famous horse race. We’ll have 3 nights in an incredible villa close to Florence, where we’ll enjoy authentic Italian dishes. The tour will end in Venice, the jewel of the Mediterranean.

Day 1: Saturday, May 28, 2022

Day 2: Sunday, May 29, 2022: Athens
On arrival in Athens, we will meet our tour director and we’ll have a bus orientation tour of Athens on the way to our centrally located hotel. The afternoon is at leisure before the Welcome Meal this evening. (IF/D)
Day 3: Monday, May 30, 3022: Athens
This morning we will enjoy a city tour of Athens, including a visit to the Acropolis & its Museum, as well as a panoramic tour of the highlights of the city. The rest of the day is at leisure to wander through the Plaka and Monastiraki districts, where old combines with new as you discover shops and restaurants full of Greek delicacies. We’ve added a new excursion to Cape Sounio where we’ll see the Temple of Poseidon. This peninsula has stunning views, especially at sunset. We will dine in our hotel this evening. (B/D)
Day 4: Tuesday, May 31: Athens, Mykonos
We will head to the port this morning and board our ferry to the Greek Island of Mykonos today with wonderful views of the Greek coastline and islands. The ferry has restaurants, sun decks and comfortable lounges. On arrival, our local guide will meet us for a bus orientation tour of the island, including the cobblestone streets of cosmopolitan Chora and the iconic 5 windmills. We’ll do a tour of the winery in Ano Mera and have a delicious meal along with wine tasting. (B/D)
Day 5: Wednesday, June 1: Mykonos
We have leisure time today to explore the island’s best beaches with fine sand and crystal-clear water that are perfect for fun in the sun! The hotel has a gorgeous pool and it’s right next to the beach. Click here to see some options that you can book in advance.
Day 6: Thursday, June 2: Mykonos, Santorini
We will transfer to the port and take the ferry boat to Santorini, the island with the most spectacular landscape, breathtaking views of the volcano, black sand beaches and romantic sunsets. Upon arrival our local guide will meet us for a bus orientation tour of the island. This evening we will visit the village of Oia to see the stunning sunset. We will dine together this evening. (B/D)
Day 7: Friday, June 3: Santorini
Today we will do the famous “Red Cruise” from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Our first stop is the Hot Springs, then we’ll sail past Aspronisi ancient light house, Akrotiri and Indian Rock. On the Red Beach we’ll have time for swimming and snorkling. The first stop is the White Beach, where we’ll have barbeque cooked on board the ship. This evening there’s an optional fun Greek wedding show, complete with food, dancing, and unlimited wine! (B/L)
Day 8: Saturday, June 4: Santorini
Today is a day to relax and enjoy the gorgeous surroundings. The hotel has 5 outdoor pool and an indoor pool and a fitness center. It’s a very short drive to Fira, Santorini’s main town, where there are a wonderful selection of cafes, shops and museums. (B)
Day 9: Sunday, June 5: Rome
We will take a direct flight to Rome (including those not on the Italy tour). We will explore Ancient Rome with our guide, including an inside tour of the Colosseum, the Forum, and Palatine Hill. We will also see the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps and the Pantheon. We will dine in a pasta restaurant this evening. (B/D)
Day 10: Monday, June 6: Rome
This morning we will begin with Vatican City and St. Peter’s Cathedral, home of the Roman Catholic Church and the largest building in Christianity. Also included is a visit to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel, with stunning artwork. The afternoon is at leisure. The Prati neighborhood around the Via Cola di Rienzo, is a popular shopping district. Other choices include the Roman Catacombs, the Borghese Gallery, the National Museum. The Piazza di Spagna is a great shopping area, very popular with visitors to Rome. The rest of the day is free for shopping, gelato, or more touring. (B)
Day 11: Tuesday, June 7: Siena, Florence
This morning a local guide will take us on a tour of Siena, including the Sunken Piazza del Campo and the Duomo, perhaps the finest Gothic cathedral in Italy. We will learn about the famous horse race that takes place in late summer. Horses represent the 17 districts, known as “Contradas” and we will see some of the emblematic flags on the tour. The Contradas include the Eagle, Snail, Wave, Panther, Forest, Tortoise, Owl, Unicorn, Shell, Tower, Ram, Caterpillar, Dragon, Giraffe, Porcupine, She-Wolf and the Goose. We will then visit San Gimignano and enjoy a full lunch and wine-tasting in a charming family-owned winery. We will continue on to Florence and check into our luxury villa. (B/L)
Day 12: Wednesday, June 8, 2022: Florence
Today’s day trip is to Florence, the Cradle of the Renaissance. Close to our villa, we will stop at Piazza Michelangelo for an amazing view of the city. A local guide will take us on a walking tour of Florence, including a visit to Accademia to see Michelangelo’s incomparable “David.” We will see the beautiful Santa Croce Church with the tombs of many famous residents of Florence including Michelangelo, Dante and Galileo. We will tour the famed Baptistry and the Duomo. Tickets will be available for those who want to climb Brunelleschi’s famous dome. We will have some free time in the afternoon, before returning to our villa for a delicious dinner. (B/D)
Day 13: Thursday, June 9, 2022: Florence
Today is a free day with a variety of options. There are 3 optional tours all with a minimum of 10 participants: We can learn Italian cooking in a private cooking class ($165), visit Pisa and Lucca ($250), or take a day trip to the Cinque Terre ($250 including boat ride). The villa is close to Florence, so there is also the option to spend a relaxed day in the city, viewing art, shopping, etc. Here’s a link to activities you might enjoy in Florence. (B)
Day 14: Friday, June 10, 2022: Florence, Venice
After breakfast, we will drive through the Emilia-Romagna region, famed for its gastronomy and wine making. We will have lunch in the Leonardi Estate, with the chance to taste the locally prepared Balsamic vinegar. We will then set off for Venice–La Serenissima, the “Serene One.” Built upon 117 islands, Venice is a mosaic of canals, plazas, fascinating markets, and chaos! We will arrive at our hotel by water taxi on the Grand Canal and the luggage will be transferred separately. The rest of the day is free for independent exploration. (B/L)
Day 15: Saturday, June 11, 2022: Venice
Our guide will take us on a walking tour of Venice, including inside visits of the Doge’s Palace, St. Mark’s Square, the Bell Tower and the impressive St. Mark’s Cathedral. In the afternoon we will have a tour of three Venetian Islands. We will see how Venetian glass is made on Murano, the colorful fishermen houses on Burano, and the historic mosaics in the cathedral on Torcello, dating back to the 7th century. Our tour will end with a group meal in Venice. (B/D)
Day 16: Sunday, June 12, 2022: Depart
We will transfer to Venice Airport for our return flights to the USA. (B)

If you have booked your own flights, we can still provide transfers, as long as we have your flight details on file and a phone number to give to the driver. We will include your transfer information in your final packet. Transfers will be arranged for each arrival, so that you won’t have to wait for other tour members if their flight is delayed. Transfers can be arranged for the day of your choosing, but we can’t arrange transfers if you arrive or depart by train.
