Amsterdam Bonhoeffer House, Berlin Wittenberg The Augustinian Monastery, Erfurt Wartburg Castle Heidelberg Strasbourg Zurich, Switzerland Reformation Wall, Geneva
Join Dr. Steve and Teri Varvis for a trip through the Reformation. The Reformation began when on October 31st Martin Luther, Dr. of Theology, posted his 95 Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. The tour will visit the major reformation sites in Germany, including those where Martin Luther worshiped, taught, wrote, and led the renewal of the Church called the Reformation: Wittenberg, Erfurt, Worms, and Heidelberg among others.
We will travel to Strasbourg in France, and Geneva and Zurich in Switzerland to see the reformation sites of the early Reformed tradition and of some of the first Anabaptists. And we will spend some time in and around Amsterdam where the Reformed and Mennonite movements developed in the uniquely Dutch world. We will meet the men and women who risked their lives for their faith, and cultural flowering of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, as well as some of the destructive wars and persecutions in this great time of change. There will be lots of chances to enjoy the sites, cities, marketplaces, and country sides and mountain valleys of Europe, learn something (no tests…), and expand our understandings and appreciation of how our world has been shaped by varieties of Christian faith.
In addition to Reformation sites we will visit some of the sites of events that have shaped our world, such as, the Berlin Wall, Holocaust sites, places where Bach conducted and performed, the Dietrich Bonhoeffer museum, the tulip fields and canals of Holland, and many, many more. We will have a time of fun, fellowship, and experience of people, places, and events that have shaped who we are, what we believe, and how we live.
